I grew up in Paris with a French father and an American mother which made for an idyllic childhood combining the best of both worlds and both languages. My love for the French language has been a part of me as long as I can remember. In fact, my 9 X great grandfather was Valentin Conrart, the founder of the Académie Française, and I can only assume that his passion for promoting and preserving the French language is deeply ingrained in my DNA.
I have taught French for over 35 years, most of those years at the University of North Carolina in Asheville, North Carolina. Upon retirement in 2017, my husband and I moved to Alabama to be near a daughter and grandchildren. Since 2017, I have taught French levels 1 and 2 at Jemison High School in Alabama. I am K-12 board-certified to teach French in the state of Alabama by the Chilton County School Board.
Given these trying times with the Coronavrius, long distance learning has become a necessity. It requires tremendous preparation on the teacher’s behalf when it is done correctly. I have continued to teach two online classes in Asheville for the past three years so I am very familiar with formulating a successful online class. I make certain that all my lessons are very visual. I make sure that my classes are very interactive. I keep my
classes very small so that every student gets to participate often.
I just completed a six-week course with a class of beginner students, ages 13 and 14, in Asheville via long distance learning. I loved it and I think the students did as well. These classes are developed using “mats” which contain all the vocabulary and grammar we cover in each lesson in one location. No need for the students to take notes. I want them actively participating. I would be glad to provide any interested parents with a link to the recording of one of these classes so you can view firsthand how my classes work online.
If you would like to join the fall 2020 online class, the charge would be $40 per month per student for eight classes per month. All materials are free. Two siblings would be $60 a month.
I welcome the opportunity to speak with you about your student’s needs and interest in learning the French language.
